Your First Visit
Upon entering our office, we will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete our patient intake forms, if you have not already, located in the New Patient Center. In order to be able to serve you more efficiently, we ask that you fill out the required paperwork prior to your first visit. This paperwork provides us with your health history and any pertinent information on how we can serve you.
Next, we will give you a tour of our beautiful office. The doctor will then take you to an exam room where you will have a consultation to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. The consultation begins with a detailed history regarding your current and past health challenges, if any. This initial visit is designed to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Dr. Abbey will spend some time explaining how Chiropractic wellness works and how things are done in our office. We strongly feel that the more we know about you and the more you know about us, the better we can help.
After your consultation, Dr. Abbey will perform a comprehensive physical examination as well as a complete chiropractic examination. The exam done in our office is very thorough and expansive, allowing us to get to the root cause of your health concerns. You may be asked to:
Afterwards, a short assessment will be utilized that includes both motion and static palpation to explore the alignment of your spine and other structures. This will provide some information on any stimuli that may cause pain or discomfort.
Depending on the specific nature of your condition, we may take X-rays at a nearby facility. Radiographs help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. After briefly viewing the x-rays, we will decide if you are a candidate for Chiropractic care. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves.
On your second visit…
On your second visit, we will again greet you with warmth and get you checked in for your appointment. You will then be taken to an office where Dr. Abbey will go over the results of your examination. We refer to this as your Report of Findings. This report is designed to answer questions including:
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, the doctor will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. We will provide the best treatment for your concerns and wellness program for your needs. Dr. Abbey also encourages you to ask any questions that you might have during this time.
At the conclusion of this appointment, you may choose to experience your first adjustment. This may include percussion therapy with the Pro-Muscle Release machine. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime.
Prior to leaving, the doctor will suggest a wellness program to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, we will also work with you to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The purpose of our wellness program is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
